Developing Allyship in the workplace: Brabners Solicitors
Belong Network was delighted to support founder members Brabners at their 2023 equality, diversity, and inclusion conference in Manchester, looking at allyship and building common ground.
Brabners, an independent and purpose-led law firm with offices across the northwest, offers all staff the chance to feed into five ‘TAG’ groups developing company policy on LGBTQIA+ issues, mental health and wellbeing, gender equality, social mobility, and physical wellbeing. Belong Network associates Mike Waite and Christine Cox met representatives from each TAG action group to offer advice, training, and resources on finding common ground and negotiating difficult conversations in a way that can build empathy and understanding. Part of the workshop looked at the concept of being an ally and the barriers to allyship such as lack of lived experience or choosing correct language or terminology – and how these could be removed to provide authentic support and empowerment.
