How We Can Help
We exist to support our members and the wider sector to create a more integrated society.

We exist to support our members and the wider sector to create a more integrated society.
The Vision of the Belong Network is a more integrated, less divided society – we exist to support our members and the wider sector make that happen. As a network we connect, support and mobilise the collective voice and expertise of our members and the wider sector through events, training programmes and resources to improve the practice and policy of integration and cohesion.
Social cohesion and integration describe how people from different backgrounds meet, interact and get along. It’s about developing neighbourhoods, workplaces, institutions and social spaces where difference is welcomed and celebrated. Creating places where empathy and curiosity is encouraged towards others. And where we move beyond narratives of ‘us’ and ‘them’ towards ideas of kindness, trust and social cohesion between groups. It is about understanding how other differences (for example, age, social class, gender) may impact integration and cohesion within and between different groups. It is about people feeling skilled and capable of negotiating tensions and differences without harming underlying social bonds. It is about being proud of the place where we live and celebrating all people and their contributions.
Social cohesion means that we get on with and trust our neighbours, colleagues and acquaintances. We feel safe and connected to others: a sense of belonging. We often only notice this vital ‘social glue’ by its absence.
Investing in social cohesion creates greater resilience among individuals and their communities to withstand the challenging times. It’s like a bank we need to pay into to so there’s something to rely on when times are hard.
People who feel a greater sense of social cohesion report higher levels of happiness, trust in neighbours and optimism about their future.
